27 Doctors, 21 Translators, 487 Prostitutes, & Me

What. A. Week. I'm back in Nicaragua and we are busier than ever. We had a clinic at House of Hope and it was amazing! An entire week of checkups, gynecology exams, and all things medical. A group of doctors came to staff the clinic and translators volunteered their time. These 27 doctors gave up their time for an entire week to do all of this for free. Some were specialists and surgeons who could have been earning their time elsewhere. They worked from 8:30 am to 5 pm every day on patient after patient with as few supplies as possible. They made-do and improvised what they didn’t have. They ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the hot sun, all with a smile. Even when half of their medications were confiscated at the airport, they continued with what they had. Watching them treat each woman with dignity and respect was incredible. The women were invited in time slots through nine neighborhood Bible study groups. Each day, the volunteers guided them to the necessary specialists and listened to their stories. We had sections for general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, ophthalmology, physical therapy, ultrasound, pharmacy, and dental care. The dentists taught proper brushing techniques and handed out toothbrushes. The patients received much more than physical healing; the entire clinic was covered in prayer. We averaged around 100 women each day. Seeing their faces light up as their needs were met completely free was inspiring. Visiting the brothels and seeing the lines of anticipating faces made all the hard work worthwhile. I haven’t posted a blog in a while, but this week was so encouraging I had to share. God is moving. He has not grown stagnant, just ask one of the hundreds of women who felt Him this week. Thank You, Lord, for Your provision. Continue providing for these women and remind me that You are providing for me as well. Amen. -K
